Joint Council for Qualifications CIC
On 1st January, the JCQ transferred its assets and operations to the Joint Council for QualificationsCIC, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company.
Aside from the change in logo and website, it is unlikely you will notice any difference between the two organisations. Although no longer a charity, the organisation’s aims and objects remain very similar and the new organisation will continue to carry out the same activities as the old one.
The members of JCQCIC are also the same: AQA, CCEA, City & Guilds, OCR, Pearson, SQA, and WJEC. The Board of Directors will comprise representatives from each member and Lesley Davies, Director of Quality, Standards and Research at Pearson, will be the organisation’s first Chair. Further information on the structure and governance can be found on the website www.jcq.org.uk
The Trustees of the charity felt that the activities and operations undertaken by JCQ were better suited to a not-for-profit Community Interest Company rather than a charity. The JCQ charity was never a fundraising organisation and its income was almost entirely from its membership – something that will continue with JCQCIC.
