John Trueman took up post as Director of Qualifications and Responsible Officer at Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in August 2025.

He brings extensive experience across qualifications, assessment, and education leadership. Prior to returning to CCEA, John was a member of the senior leadership team at the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), where he served as Director of ASCL Northern Ireland.

Between 2015 and 2023, John held a range of senior roles within CCEA, with responsibility spanning Arts and Science subjects, and leadership of the Standards, Assessment Development, and Data Science teams. His work has focused on maintaining standards, supporting system integrity, and ensuring qualifications meet the needs of learners and centres.

John began his career as a teacher, working across all Key Stages in a variety of school settings, and later as a senior leader within a multi-academy trust. John also serves as a governor for two schools in Northern Ireland.
